Douglas Vale Historic Homestead & Vineyard
dates back to 1859.
Vigneron George Francis bought two parcels of land totalling 20ac.(8.1ha) on
what was then the New England Road.
The property was named after Francis' wife's family, who were Douglas' from Scotland.

After 140 years the history of the homestead and vineyard are being conserved,
restored and interpreted. The public is now welcome to the site
and the vineyard is again producing
wines.

Our Wine Selection
Chambourcin-Heritage Red-Cottage Rose-White Cockatoo-Ruby Port

The rejuvenation of the Vineyard, and restoration of the Homestead has come about due to;
the dedication of members of the community-run

Douglas Vale Conservation Group Inc, with assistance from
State & Local Governments, the NSW Lands Dept., TAFE NSW, The Heritage Council of NSW,
Eastport High & Westport Primary Schools, and Bago Vineyard.

The Homestead is the oldest wooden structure in the Hastings region, and represents
the last remaining fabric of the pioneering wine industry of the 1800's.
It is classified by the National Trust and included in Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's Heritage sites.

Our Patron, Brian McGuigan,
is a member of one of  Australia's great winemaking families.
Research of Family History has  identified Brian's strong family connections to Douglas Vale.
His uncle, Victor Charles McGuigan, brother to Percy McGuigan of Wyndham Estate Wines, married Margaret and George Francis's
Great-Granddaughter; Lila Isobel Wilson, in 1938.
